Rev. Dr. Samuel Chang Kil Kim

The Reverend Dr. Chang Kil Kim, recipient of 2015 Positive Thinking Award, has led effective and meaningful ministry at the Presbyterian Church of New

Jersey(PCNJ) for 31 years. Under his pastoral leadership, PCNJ grew from 31 members into one of the biggest multilingual churches(Korean, English, Hispanic) in NJ, established two campuses one in highly Korean populated Palisades Park and the other one in Oakland, 28-acre beautiful garden church. His pastoral leadership extended into international communities reaching out to the wounded, the sick, the poor and the broken-hearted in countries such as Russia, El Salvador, and Brazil. Reverend Dr. Kim was born in Chang-Chun, China, grew up in Korea, and ministered in both Canada and the United States that helped him to think globally and transcend cultural and gender diversities. His pioneering and entrepreneurial leadership helped establish several institutions including a middle school in S. Korea and Protestant Abbey Mission in the United States. He earned a Bachelor of Theology at Yonsei University, and a Master of Art in Christian Education at the United Graduate School of Theology at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He then earned his Doctor of Ministry at McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL. For his leadership that went beyond local churches, Reverend Dr. Kim was recognized by many institutions including the "Most Proud Alumni" Award from Yonsei University in 2002, and the "Distinguished, dedicated Service" Award from the Asian Women's Christian Association in 2008, and the Outstanding Clergy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Council of Churches of the City of New York in 2009. Reverend Dr. Kim has published six sermon books, three poem collections, two essay collections, and one biography. He also wrote a song entitled ЎSong of Immigrants,Ў composed by a well-recognized hymn composer. Reverend Dr. Kim is married to Reverend Dr. Yung Sun Esther Kim for 38 years. They have three sons Paul (Professor/Medical Doctor), Peter (Doctor of Dental Medicine), and Philip (Research Analyst).

Protestant Abbey Mission

Protestant Abbey Mission (PAM), a non-denominational organization, was founded on January 1, 2011 to promote a renewal of spirituality among Koreans  who are dispersed throughout the world including the United States.  Its mission was three prong purposes  development of spirituality, promotion of physical and psychological health, and  development of one's gifts and talents.  PAM aims to foster the  integrative wholeness of physical, mental, spiritual health; encourage a wholistic spirituality including both contemplative and practice spirituality; bring the strengths of various denominations at work;  and integrate both spirituality and mental health science in the healing process.  Its main activities include a monthly supervision of pastoral leadership, bi-monthly gathering of retired ministers, weekly prayer meeting and Bible studies, counseling, and quarterly publication of јµїїј µ·їґ јё(Voice from Abbey)which carries articles in both Korean, English of which contributing authors include both Koreans and non-Koreans, and are distributed to Korean communities throughout the world.  The PAMЎs work is unique in its ability to reach out to all generations of Korean-Americans, first, 1.5 and second generations and it extends its work to support non-Koreans such as Filipino  nurses.
